Below, we’ve listed 10 destinations—from the Balkans to Southeast Asia—where your TL budget can stretch comfortably. I wanted to highlight Belgrade as I once had a wonderful time there. I visited during the pandemic, and it was an incredible city—fun, lively, and suitable for all ages. It’s also very affordable. One extra note: I personally found it to be a very safe city.

One thing not to forget about Belgrade: public transport is free. We learned this during our last days. Airport buses, however, are paid.

Local tip: Cafes along the Sava and Danube rivers offer great quality for low prices. Try the local bread and pastry varieties. You can also explore Belgrade’s famous nightlife—many of the clubs are located on boats.

4. Bosnia & Herzegovina – Sarajevo & Mostar

Rich history, affordable accommodation, and hearty cuisine.

Local tip: Try “bosanski kahve” at small cafés in Baščaršija; handmade copper souvenirs are affordable and make great gifts.

The food is quite similar to Turkish cuisine—especially to dishes from the Black Sea region. The best part: it’s surprisingly affordable! You can eat very well for much less than in Türkiye.
